Back to the Future: Jim Carrey and Colin Trevorrow Team Up for a Live-Action The Jetsons Film

October 21, 20252 min read

Warner Bros. is gearing up to bring the The Jetsons legacy to modern audiences, with Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow in talks to helm the project. The real surprise? Jim Carrey is being eyed for the lead role, likely as George Jetson, the patriarch of the Jetson family. Trevorrow is set to co-write the script with Joe Eptstein, showrunner of HBO’s controversial series The Idol.

While these deals are not yet finalized, Hollywood’s efforts to revive The Jetsons are not new. In 2017, ABC ordered a live-action Jetsons pilot, and back in 2012, rapper Kanye West even announced his involvement as a creative director for the project.

Two Heavyweights, One Big Question

Warner Bros.’ insistence on this pairing is clear: both names have a proven track record of box office success. Trevorrow’s direction of the Jurassic World films resulted in some of the highest-grossing movies of all time, with Jurassic World Dominion surpassing $1 billion despite mixed reviews. Carrey, a superstar with over $6 billion in global box office earnings, has seen a resurgence in popularity with his role as Dr. Robotnik in the Sonic the Hedgehog series.

For the studio, the key is a film’s ability to draw audiences to theaters. Trevorrow’s knack for reviving franchises and Carrey’s singular comedic genius make this project commercially promising. The costly question, however, is whether this duo can truly connect modern audiences with this 1960s classic.
