Antony Starr Reflects on His Iconic Role as Homelander as ‘The Boys’ Concludes

August 14, 20253 min read

Antony Starr has penned a heartfelt tribute to his character Homelander as The Boys wraps up its fifth and final season.

In a recent post, Starr shared his emotions, describing his experience on the show as “the highlight of my career.” He waited to share his reflections until he could fully process the conclusion, along with a series of behind-the-scenes photos from the show.

“It’s hard to express just how incredible this journey has been, and how much I’ve grown along the way,” he wrote. “The team is truly remarkable. When we started, I had no idea of the wild ride we were in for. The show took off and never looked back—except for that brief pause during COVID…and the strikes. But aside from those moments, it boldly made its mark on television. There’s nothing like it; it exists in its own unique realm.”

Starr extended his gratitude to the phenomenal Canadian crew, the talented production team, and the cast, as well as to Amazon and Sony for believing in this ambitious project (and for casting him, humorously noted).

He then reflected on the significance of portraying the powerful and complex Homelander. “This character has given me the chance to explore and push boundaries beyond what I ever expected, and I’m eternally grateful for that opportunity.”

He also thanked showrunner Eric Kripke, calling him his “creative partner in bringing this twisted character to life.” He admitted, “We created a monster together, and I will miss him, as well as you, until we gather for the last season.”

Starr concluded with a heartfelt message to the fans. “You are the lifeblood of this show. Without you, we wouldn’t have the opportunity to do what we love. Your support is unparalleled, and I have the utmost respect for your discerning taste.”

In his final words, he remarked, “Alright, folks. We cooked up something special one last time. I can’t wait to share it with you. Until that day, Homelander signing off.”

Since its premiere in 2019, The Boys has received critical acclaim and commercial success, leading to a spin-off series, Gen V, which will return for its second season on September 17. The final season of The Boys is set to be released next year, and the latest trailer for Gen V hints at several exciting crossovers with the original series.
