London’s Design Museum is set to open its doors to Wes Anderson: The Archives, the first retrospective exhibition dedicated to the singular career of filmmaker Wes Anderson.

The exhibition offers unprecedented access to Anderson’s personal archives, spanning over thirty years, with many objects displayed in the UK for the first time. Visitors can explore the design stories behind Anderson’s films, from the 1990s to his latest works, and delve into his collaborations with creative partners.

You’ll get an up-close look at the behind-the-scenes design processes of iconic films like The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar, Fantastic Mr. Fox, and Isle of Dogs. The exhibition features over 600 objects that showcase Anderson’s meticulous craftsmanship, including original storyboards, Polaroids, sketches, paintings, handwritten notebooks, puppets, miniature models, and costumes.

Highlights include the candy-pink Grand Budapest Hotel model, vending machines from Asteroid City, Gwyneth Paltrow’s FENDI fur coat from The Royal Tenenbaums, and original stop-motion puppets from The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou and Fantastic Mr. Fox. Additionally, Anderson’s 1993 debut short film, Bottle Rocket, will be screened. The exhibition emphasizes Anderson’s affinity for traditional and handmade filmmaking techniques, particularly puppetry and stop-motion animation.
