20 Years of Korean Cinema: Resistance and Women’s Voices at the London Korean Film Festival

November 9, 20251 min read

The London Korean Film Festival (LKFF) returns 5–18 November 2025, ready to flood London with the boldest beats of Korean film. Celebrating its 20th birthday, the festival delivers a panoramic love-letter to Korea’s cinematic past and present.

At its heart: Cinema Now, a high-voltage showcase of the hottest new releases—proof that Korean storytelling is still rewriting the rules. Yet the crown jewel of 2025 is “Dramas of Resistance: The 80th Anniversary of Liberation”. Partnering with the Korean Film Archive, this special strand dusts off classics and rarities to re-examine Korea’s fiercest turning points through the lens of those who lived—and filmed—them.

Opening & Closing Galas

  • Opening Night: Frosted Window
  • Closing Night: Harbin
    Plus a one-off special screening of the buzzed-about Hi-Five.

Women’s Voices, Amplified

LKFF 2025 refuses to stay quiet. The Women’s Voices strand spotlights female directors and creators, letting their fierce, fragile, unflinching stories ring out loud and clear—proof that Korean cinema’s future is female.

More than a festival, LKFF is London’s annual portal into cultural memory, political fire, and artistic wildfire—the beating heart of Asian cinema in the UK.
