Dave Mustaine Teases Megadeth’s Farewell Tour Could Extend to Five Years

November 15, 20252 min read

Dave Mustaine has revealed that Megadeth’s farewell tour might last up to five years.

In August, the iconic metal band announced plans for their final studio album, set to release in 2026, along with a farewell tour and an autobiography from Mustaine that chronicles their journey.

The self-titled album, Megadeth, is scheduled to drop on January 23, 2026. It will include their latest single, “Tipping Point,” along with a bonus track featuring Metallica’s “Ride the Lightning.”

The band has also confirmed a series of shows in South America in 2026, followed by a North American tour in the summer alongside Iron Maiden. Although specific details for a worldwide headline tour are still pending, Mustaine has expressed their intention to continue touring for several years.

In a recent interview, Mustaine, 64, stated, “We’re easily talking about touring for another three to five years.” He humorously added, “If we’re going to be doing it for that long, then I’ll be facing a birthday I don’t even want to think about.”

Mustaine shared insights on why they’re choosing to wrap things up, saying, “I’m not obsessed with longevity and being one of those guys who can perform into their 80s. I have to acknowledge that people live and die, and I need to take care of myself.”

Reflecting on the decision to conclude their journey on their own terms, he noted, “Many musicians don’t get to retire on their own terms—accidentally or otherwise. I feel fortunate to be stepping back while I’m at the peak of my career. I’ve toured the world and earned millions of fans, and the toughest part of this whole process is saying goodbye.”
