Tom Morello from Rage Against The Machine reminisced about his last interaction with rock legend Ozzy Osbourne during Ozzy’s ‘Back To The Beginning’ concert.
In a recent appearance on Rockunda, Morello reflected on the emotional atmosphere of the event, after which he was honored to serve as the musical director. “This was the last time I saw Ozzy,” he shared. “After the show, everyone was hugging and crying, and we headed to the afterparty.”
While enjoying a game of pinball with his son, Morello felt a tap on his shoulder. It was Jack Osbourne, there to let him know that his dad wanted to speak. “Oh my gosh! Ozzy came to the afterparty? That’s crazy!” he exclaimed.
After finishing his game, Morello approached Ozzy, expressing his gratitude and love for a lifetime of music. Ozzy’s response? “Could you find Sharon? I want to get the hell out of here!”
Morello laughed at the classic Ozzy quip, calling it “the perfect ending to the day.”
He also discussed the profound impact Ozzy’s music had on his life, mentioning that he named his son Rhoads after Ozzy’s iconic guitarist Randy Rhoads. “I don’t just owe a musical debt; it’s a deeply personal one,” he said. “When Ozzy and Sharon asked me to curate that day, I took it very seriously, aiming to make it the greatest day in heavy metal history—and I believe we succeeded.”
Ozzy’s passing at the age of 76 in July left a significant void in the music world, with tributes pouring in from fans and musicians alike, especially in his hometown of Birmingham. Jack Osbourne expressed heartfelt gratitude for the public support during this difficult time, showing how much Ozzy’s legacy continues to resonate.
