Mike Joyce, the drummer for The Smiths, has announced the release of his autobiography titled *The Drums*.
This past weekend, Joyce shared the news on social media, revealing that the book will be available in the UK starting November 6. It’s currently available for pre-order, and HMV is offering a limited hardback edition signed by Joyce himself, limited to one copy per customer.
Details regarding its global release are still pending. According to HMV’s description of *The Drums*, the memoir promises a candid perspective on the band from someone who claims to be “the biggest Smiths fan in the world.”
The autobiography does not aim to fill gaps in the well-documented history of The Smiths, stating: “The existing accounts of the band are comprehensive, but Mike’s honest, engaging, and profoundly human memoir is what fans have been yearning for. This book genuinely captures what it was like to be part of The Smiths.”
*The Drums* marks the third memoir about The Smiths. The first, *Autobiography*, was penned by Morrissey and released in 2013 through Penguin Classics, followed by Johnny Marr’s *Set The Boy Free* in 2016.
While bassist Andy Rourke, who sadly passed away in 2023, did not produce an autobiography, he contributed extensively to Tony Fletcher’s 2012 book *A Light That Never Goes Out: The Enduring Saga of the Smiths*.
Recently, Mike Joyce joined Pete Doherty’s solo live band, showcasing several Smiths classics like “Panic” and “How Soon Is Now?” in performances throughout May.
