Idlewild has announced the release of their new self-titled album, set to drop on October 3, accompanied by the powerful lead single ‘Stay Out Of Place.’
This marks the Edinburgh band’s first new music since their 2019 album, Interview Music. The new single, reminiscent of their melodic alt-rock roots, was debuted by Steve Lamacq on his BBC 6 Music show last night.
Frontman Roddy Woomble shared his thoughts on the track, saying, “Walt Whitman was right; we contain multitudes. We each have different voices within us, and picking one to express is fascinating—especially in a band of five. We may have our own ways of viewing the world, but sometimes it’s necessary to shake things up and throw out the rulebook. That’s what ‘Stay Out Of Place’ embodies—a fresh start and introduction to Idlewild in 2025.”
The upcoming album, their tenth, was crafted last year at Post Electric Studios in Edinburgh and the Isle of Iona Library in the Hebrides. It reflects their varied influences, from early indie punk to the folk-rock style of their 2005 album, Warnings/Promises.
Woomble noted, “We’re looking back but not in a nostalgic sense; instead, we’re celebrating our growth as a band. For the first time, we intentionally referenced our sound while creating new music. Once it was recorded, it seemed fitting to simply call it Idlewild.”
The album will be available on CD, standard black vinyl, and in two special limited-edition colors. You can pre-order it here.
Alongside the album, Idlewild has announced a series of tour dates over the upcoming months, starting shortly after their album release. Tickets for the dates are available here.

Reflecting on their punk rock roots, Woomble previously stated, “Idlewild is all about our journey as musicians who learned to play by just getting up and making noise. We were inspired by the bands who explored new ideas on stage.”
