June 13, 20253 min read

Last night, Live Aid pioneer Bob Geldof graced the official opening of Just For One Day – The Live Aid Musical, sharing his thoughts on the show’s West End debut: “We’re in the West End, where this production truly belongs and should thrive for years to come. Its strength lies in the incredible performances and the remarkable sound of this band.”

In a candid video, Geldof also shared his insights on figures like Elon Musk and Donald Trump.

Just For One Day is more than just a musical; it supports the ongoing efforts of the Band Aid Charitable Trust. Geldof emphasized, “This show has a purpose beyond mere entertainment. Through their hard work every night, this incredible team has raised nearly a million pounds.”

Currently running at the Shaftesbury Theatre, the show is set to release an original cast recording on July 11, featuring Queen’s new single, “We Are The Champions.”

Roger Taylor, the drummer of Queen, praised the musical, calling it a “touching reminder of the music industry at its peak… a powerful event that transcended politics to aid those in need. What a fantastic day!”

For the 1.5 billion viewers who watched Live Aid on July 13, 1985, Queen’s electrifying performance was unforgettable, complete with hits like “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “We Will Rock You.”

Just For One Day – The Live Aid Musical utilizes the iconic songs from that day to narrate the story of how this legendary concert came to be, spearheaded by Geldof, Midge Ure, and Harvey Goldsmith.

The original cast recording, available for preorder, showcases songs by renowned artists like Queen, David Bowie, U2, Elton John, and many others. This album, a tribute to the 1980s, is produced by Matthew Brind and Jon Bath, maintaining the energy of the original tracks while offering a fresh sound.

The musical continues its acclaimed run at the Shaftesbury Theatre and will commemorate the 40th anniversary of Live Aid on July 13, 2025, with a special gala performance and afterparty at KOKO, Camden. Limited tickets are available, with a portion of proceeds benefiting the Band Aid Charitable Trust.

Producer Jamie Wilson remarked, “Our aim with Just For One Day was to embody the spirit of unity and the transformative potential of music that characterized Live Aid. The cast album celebrates timeless songs and moving performances that resonate across generations. It’s not just an album; it’s a tribute to a moment when the world united through music.”

Moreover, 10% of all ticket sales for the musical directly support the Band Aid Charitable Trust, which has raised over £850,000 so far.

“Brilliant!” was Roger Taylor’s enthusiastic reaction after attending Just For One Day – The Live Aid Musical.
