Ragıp Türk, whom we know from his award-winning short films such as “Bir Kelebeğin İntihar Denemeleri” (2012), “Harun Diye Bir Adam” (2016), and “Tor” (2019) that have received numerous national and international accolades, is crossing an exciting new threshold in his cinematic journey. The director’s highly anticipated first feature film, “Taş ve Tüy” (Stone and Feather), is set to have its world premiere at one of Asia’s most prestigious independent film events: the Jeonju International Film Festival.
The 27th edition of the festival, to be held in Jeonju, South Korea, from 29 April to 5 May 2026, is recognised as one of the world’s most important platforms for avant-garde cinema. Known for giving ample space to contemporary cinematography and new aesthetic explorations, this established festival previously introduced Darren Aronofsky’s early works to South Korea and gave Asian premieres to masters like Béla Tarr. “Taş ve Tüy” will compete in the main competition for the top prize.
Heavy as Stone, Fragile as a Feather: A Life and a Hope
Written by Ragıp Türk himself, “Taş ve Tüy” draws the audience into a deeply moving and emotional struggle of motherhood. The film follows Nazire (played by Melda Tuzluca), who has just been released from prison, as she fights to reunite with her son Uğur, who is in a children’s home.
Nazire faces not only bureaucratic obstacles; her biggest disadvantage is the lack of a steady job and a home where she can live with her child — conditions demanded by the institution. Moreover, the presence of a wealthy foster family that wants to adopt her son takes the struggle to a whole new level. Trapped between life’s heavy-as-stone conditions and the feather-like fragility of hope, this story promises the audience a profound social and psychological confrontation.
Strong Cast and Crew Behind the Camera
Produced by RA FILM, “Taş ve Tüy” is brought to life through the collective effort of a powerful team that reflects the spirit of independent cinema. The film is produced by İris Tahhuşoğlu, Ragıp Türk, and Duygu Aktoprak, while Melda Tuzluca is joined in the cast by Özgür Meriç, Onur Gözeten, Duygu Aktoprak, Emrah Özdemir, Tuğba Kürükoğlu, Ersen Karagöz, and Süleyman Karaahmet.
The film, which participated in the Antalya Film Forum in 2022 during its development phase and received production support from the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism’s Directorate General of Cinema, features cinematography by Emre Pekçakır and editing by Naim Kanat.
About Director Ragıp Türk
