The Apartman No: 26 team is turning our route toward the history-scented streets of Little Britain, to BEERS London. Danish artist Andreas Welin’s first solo exhibition at the gallery, titled We Meet, And Meet, And Meet, confronts us with the most fundamental yet most complex human action: the state of “meeting” / “encountering.”
The exhibition opened its doors on March 6 and continues until April 11, waiting for those who wish to explore the silent rituals and unspoken agreements that lie behind human interactions.
Don’t look for a specific story or familiar scenario on Welin’s canvases; he is more interested in pursuing our collective emotional states. That strange tension we feel while waiting for someone, the need to belong to a group, or the simultaneous sense of trust and uncertainty contained within a social interaction… The artist questions how people are bound to one another by an invisible, inexplicable collective rhythm. His figures often appear suspended in an in-between space — where the desire for connection and the experience of loneliness intertwine.
While walking through the exhibition, the flower paintings that appear alongside the figurative works may at first seem to stray from the main theme. Yet Welin reminds us that flowers are actually the focal point of social gatherings. Just as we come together in groups, we also bring flowers together to celebrate these encounters. Flowers become indispensable elements and silent witnesses of those ceremonial moments when “we meet, and meet, and meet again.”
Technically, Welin remains faithful to classical painting traditions, building an emotional language through color theory, line, and gesture. His creative process walks a fine line between planned ideas and a necessary margin of uncertainty. For Welin, anxiety is an inseparable part of the creative process — even a catalyst that allows a work to evolve into something truly interesting. As a result, the paintings feel less like finished products and more like living organisms slowly finding their own direction.
As residents of Apartman No: 26, we were deeply moved by the quiet and intimate atmosphere Welin has created. The collective awareness of the figures combined with the still, sincere counterpoint offered by the flowers captures many emotions that cannot be put into words and imprisons them on canvas. Running until April 11, this exhibition makes for a perfect brief “intermission” stop — a moment to set aside for yourself amid the chaos of April.
